Boise’s San Inazio Basque Festival runs July 29-31. Basque writer Benan Oregi Inurrieta will kick off the festival by reading letters from his grandfather, who was imprisoned during the Spanish Civil War, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. July 28 at the Boise State BoDo location (301 S. Capitol Blvd.).
Through 250 letters written between 1936-1940, Inurrieta tells the story of a generation of Basque nationalists whose lives were changed during the war. By sharing this story in Boise, the author’s second home, he hopes to honor those who endured the war.
The San Inazio Basque Festival is co-sponsored by Boise State and the Basque Museum and Cultural Center. Click here for a complete list of festival events.
