Message from the Dean – Tony Roark

Tony RoarkWelcome to the College of Arts and Sciences at Boise State University. As the largest academic unit in the University, the College provides a variety of baccalaureate, masters, and PhD programs in the arts, sciences and humanities. The College also provides two-thirds of the general education (core) curriculum for all degree programs in the University. A detailed description of our mission and academic programs can be accessed from our home page.

As Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, I am committed to providing a vibrant learning community that fosters tolerance and an appreciation for diversity. Within this environment, students are challenged to do their very best as they pursue new knowledge and ideas through a variety of formats and venues. Such venues include formal lectures and laboratories, web-based resources and activities, workshops and service learning, independent study, directed readings, research, and other creative works. During this journey students at both the undergraduate and graduate level have the opportunity to enhance their academic career through extracurricular activities in the studio, research laboratory, and greater Boise community. These opportunities are provided by an outstanding faculty and staff who take an innovative approach to learning, are engaged in scholarship, are connected with the surrounding community, and take an active role in the lives of students. Our students and faculty also benefit from the generous support of our friends and alumni.

I invite you to explore our web pages in order to learn more about the numerous programs and opportunities available, and to meet the wonderful faculty and the administrative and professional staff responsible for teaching and learning in the College of Arts and Sciences.
